Facebook is Finally on the iPad! Now What?

Social media turned another turn on 10/11/11 as Facebook finally announced that an iPad app was ready for users to download. As bizarre as it may sound, up until now there had not been a specific Facebook app for the iPad. Instead, iPad users experienced Facebook just like everyone else does – through a web browser.

The only problem was that the Facebook layout and interface as it exists in standard form doesn’t translate well to a touchpad. You could flick through photos but that’s about it – clicking the tiny links and icons that litter updates and profiles was a chore.

But that’s apparently no longer the case with the long awaited Facebook app for the iPad and iPad 2. Everything you need or would want to access is available via a left sidebar with thick icons for easy tapping. In addition to a sidebar option for messages, an easy-to-click drop down message menu lets you filter through and send along messages with ease. Games – which were once difficult to jump start via Safari on the iPad – can now be accessed swiftly, making it even simpler to stay consistent with games that are in fact more enjoyable when played on a touchscreen computer.

Those interested in the monetizing potential of this new app need look no further than the advantages of pay-per-click advertising, which when combined with a tablet computer is a sure success. The best SEO software out there is certain to tell you the same thing. Pages that host popular games or funky original Facebook apps catering to the touchscreen experience are sure to be the latest hot talk of Internet marketers.

But the real advantages of the new Facebook app for the iPad come with looking at photos. The app lets you bring your photos and the pictures of friends to full screen life, giving you unprecedented access to the high quality shots that are available to view. Albums can be converted into a long row of mini pics on a bottom bar, which can be scrolled through to instantly enlarge a specific picture. In addition, the new Timeline feature soon to become a part of every Facebook profile in existence will undoubtedly shine in this new format.

As far as what you will get out of the new Facebook app for the iPad, there’s only one way to find out. It’s free through the Apple App Store, so what do you have to lose, except the time you waste toying around with it? 😉
