Using Social Media to Promote Non-Profits

One of the best ways to promote your self-profit effectively is with social media.

You will reach a large audience, most of it costs you nothing, and it is easy to learn. Developing campaigns through social media is easier and faster than other forms of advertising, like radio, television or print.

Here are some things to consider when deciding how to promote your non-profit with social media networks.

The first way to use social media for promoting your non-profit organization, is to promote an event.

You can use your organization’s Facebook page to create an event page. This is an easy way to start getting the word out about your special event and can attract a very wide audience. Users of Facebook are likely to share with their friends the event and those interested will follow the page as well.

Get Everyone Involved

Networking and being connected with others is essential when you want to promote your non-profit using social media.

Announce your social media aspirations to everyone involved in your organization, including event planners, executive directors, volunteers, friends, donors and board members. Have each of them reach out to people they know, whether it’s getting a petition signed or a “like” for your Facebook page.

This is a fast way to get the word out about your organization. You could literally get hundreds or even thousands of fans in a matter of days.

Be Honest and Upfront

With non-profit organizations, people want to know your story, so be honest and upfront with them. Tell your background and personal stories about why you chose to start this non-profit in the first place.

Ask others involved in the non-profit to share their personal stories as well. Saying you want to help your community is one thing, but giving specific examples about why it is so important is an entirely other thing.

Tagging people in photos and updates has multiple benefits.

First of all, you’re showing appreciate for people who are involved in those events or photos, giving donors, volunteers and personnel a reason to share on their own opinions on the subject.

But even more than that, their friends are going to see the tag and look at your page to see what it’s all about. This is a great way to expand your audience and get more exposure to your fan pages.
