Unsurprisingly, bloggers are popping up all over the city. From Manhattan to Brooklyn, one of the largest concentration of locally focused websites are gaining huge followers, even outside of NYC. There are literally thousands that are just waiting for you to read them.
But how to find all of them? It’s easy, thanks to these three websites that holds a comprehensive database that you can browse, search or even add yourself to.
1. NYC Bloggers
What is more New Yorker than the subway line? Everyone there uses it, everyone both loves and hates it and perhaps the easiest way to give directions is by stop rather than street name. So it was only a matter of time before this happened: blogs based on subway stop location. You can find bloggers located right in your neighborhood. It has sparked a huge number of real life community meetups, collaborations and more. They have other features as well, such as a tribute to the lives lost on 9/11 with a collection of posts made about the topic, and a large city resource list. So far, they have 6,293 blogs listed, and are always taking more.
Bloglines is a beta-mode site that collects links for blogs in various cities. It allows you to subscribe through the site itself, putting all of your subscriptions in one place rather than through various RSS feeds. This is great if you aren’t a fan of a cluttered RSS bar, and just want to be able to visit one site to see all of your updates. It has other features like services in NYC that have been listed by genre, and there are several hundred businesses posted there. They also keep a calender of local events and New York tourist attractions, such as design conferences, theater productions and carnivals. Despite still being in beta, this is an incredibly popular website.
This is actually a news site more than anything else, but it is specific to New York. They have local places listed, such as cultural institutions, buildings and businesses. But they also have a list of blogs that they enjoy, which are all maintained by locals. Not to mention the large number of news stories that are posted by NYC bloggers, as well. It is a great place to get a local’s view on current events or things happening in the city.
New York City is an incredible place, with a wide range of cultures, events and people. You can get a taste of this no matter where you are, thanks to the many blogs being written in the area.
