Get Social About Your Auto Insurance Needs

insuranceAccording to an eMarketer report, 1.73 billion people use social media worldwide. That’s one out of every four people. Clearly, social media provides an incredible opportunity to reach a huge audience.

It seems as though every company is jumping on the social media bandwagon (for good reason), and car insurance companies are no different. The U.S. Census found that roughly 75% of the population drives a vehicle – meaning three-quarters of the population needs auto insurance.

How car insurance companies are using social media

There’s no better way to reach a wide audience than by social media.

Auto insurance companies – such as Geico, Prudential, Progressive and Allstate – can gain new clients, help existing clients, advertise rates and deals, promote new products and more via social media.

Among the highlights:

  • They’re providing quotes online – These days, most people do not hire an agent when looking for auto insurance – they simply look at quotes online. Car insurance companies will increase their chances at gaining new clients by advertising this information on their Facebook page, Twitter account and company website, making it easy for potential and existing clients to access and obtain quotes.
  • They’re communicating with customers – Customers like to be heard – and auto insurance customers are no different. Social media allows customers to get their questions answered quickly and problems solved efficiently.
  • They’re developing apps – Apps are convenient and make our lives easier. By allowing consumers to download an insurance company’s app, you’re saving them time by allowing them to pay their bill via the app, file a claim and manage your policy. New drivers will particularly find this helpful – as younger people tend to be the savviest in social media.
  • They’re networking – When people need something – whether it’s a restaurant recommendation, movie recommendation or auto insurance policy – they turn to others to see what they’re experience was like. A good recommendation or experience does wonders for gaining new customers. With social media, no longer are just your close friends and family hearing about the experience. You’re reaching hundreds, if not thousands, of people. A friend of mine, who works for Allstate, posted a Facebook status offering lower rates on auto and renter’s insurance. Sure enough, this status was ‘shared’ a few times, and his business increased – all from a Facebook post. Car insurance companies can also post good reviews on their website and other social media accounts to network and grow their business.

One thing you, as a consumer, can do to find the best rate and obtain the best service is to follow and ‘like’ a variety of car insurance companies.

You’ll be up-to-date on new product information, new rates and different ways you can save money. Sometimes, a package deal is best.

For example, Prudential provides auto loans for people with poor credit, so you may want to consider going with their insurance, too. Geico, on the other hand, is known for having the best coverage for the lowest price.

By following a few different companies’ social media accounts, you will easily know which company will best suit your particular auto insurance needs.
