Are You Twittering Mostly on Fridays? Everyone Else Is

Two independent resources have conducted studies about the habits of social media users and it seems the results are consistent with Friday being the ideal day to head online and find out what you need to know.

During the research, it was found that the majority of updates, status changes, and Tweets occur on Fridays, with an 18% increase over the other days of the week. Twitter in particular was found to have ‘more engaged’ Tweets on Fridays than any other day.

The chief reason behind the Friday fascination with social media is simple – more people are working for the weekend and are thinking about what to do for the weekend as soon as Friday arrives. Users are relying on the information they get from their social media resources to plan out their weekends. Social media is being used now more than ever to keep people in the loop about what’s happening around the world as well as what’s going on in their own backyard.

While the news is good for the services and companies providing the information pertaining to the weekend, those marketing for the Business to Business (B2B) audience may be at a loss since most people are geared towards Saturday and Sunday and are far from thinking about what business needs to be done on Monday.

If you want to find the deals and fun for the weekend party, look for them throughout the week but certainly make time on Fridays to find out what you need to know.

  1. Even Monday can be a good day to see the conversion of tweets and Facebook updates.

  2. I seem to do an awful lot of sharing on Monday’s and Thursday’s, I try to keep Friday’s as my fun tweeting and giveaways day.

  3. Any day around lunch time is also good. A good range is between 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, the trick is to time it with your desired target audience’s time zone.

As for Friday, the “just-got-off-work” period between 6 to 8pm is prime time. Do keep in mind that there is a high activity so you’ll have a higher chance of getting noticed by using 1 (and do keep it only at 1) hashtag.
