If you think that Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga or Kesha dominate YouTube, you are wrong!
Type in YouTube Glitter Puke and you’ll find a video with over 82 million views. The Key of Awesome is part of the comedy network Barely Digital, which is a branch of Barely Political. Barely Political was launched in June 2007 with the debut video “I’ve Got a Crush on Obama,” featuring soon-to-be icon Obama Girl.
That video quickly became one of the most talked about and blogged about comedy videos of all time, particularly as Obama’s popularity was rising. Since then Barely Political has become one of the most popular online network, reaching over 1 billion views on YouTube. According to Mashable, The Key of Awesome is currently the 2nd most popular web series on the Internet. In October 2007 Barely Political was bought by Next New Networks, for an unknown amount, which in turn was acquired by YouTube in spring 2011.
Besides the Obama Girl series and the Key of Awesome, Barely Political also has produced other hit shows such as Tech Know and Autotune the News.
The most watched web series is The Key of Awesome, mostly for the parodies of most pop culture songs such as “California Gurls” by Katy Perry. Watch more shows from the Key of Awesome at http://www.youtube.com/show/keyofawesome.
