Employers Now Stock Prospective Employees

Whether an employer is hiring an intern, a lawyer, a secretary, or even a health insurance attorney; he or she is no longer looking at resumes and academic achievements alone.

Gone are the days when employers could not take a look at a prospective employee’s personal life. Employers are now using social media to really figure out who you are as a professional, and who you are personally before they decide on who they are going to hire.

Employers are using whatever social media tools they can in order to stock you and figure out what kind of person you are. Some questions employers will be thinking about as they look over your life on the internet are: Will they be a good worker? Are they diligent and honest? Do they party a lot? Do they put inappropriate things on the internet? Would they be able to represent the company well?

If you are getting ready for internships and or job interviews you should really be aware of what you have on the internet and be careful about what you place there. Because so many employers are researching you before hand, a Facebook or twitter account may be the first impression you get to make to an employer. How does your first impression look?

Here are some things you can do to make sure your first online impression is a good one:

  • Put nothing online that would make you blush in front of your grandmother or your future employer.
  • Do not write or post about being sad and depressed all the time, you future employer might be looking for someone upbeat and fun.
  • Do not put yourself in situations where others could take embarrassing photos of you and place them online.
  • If you are a writer, make sure only your best content is put online.
  • Usually, employers like prospective employees who have a good internet presence. This means that you have things like Twitter, Facebook, blogs, websites and other social media things that give you internet presence.
  • If you do have a blog or website, only post quality content and make sure they are kept up-to-date.

These things will help you to have a better first online impression for your possible employer. Having a good online presence, quality content, along with appropriate content can get you that much closer to a job or internship.
